Simon de Montfort found himself trapped and low on funds, men and food.
The loss of Gloucester also meant the loss of the services of two key supporters and 300 men.
However, it would be fifteen more days before the castle's garrison submitted.
Gloucester offered more resistance, and the town was captured on 14th June 1265.
