This week in the House of Commons MPs debated the Queen's Speech, junior doctors' contracts, holidays during school term-time and more.

The Queen's Speech

On Wednesday 18 May MPs debated the contents of the Queen's Speech, which outlined the Government's legislative programme for the 2016-17 parliamentary session.

MPs continued to debate the contents of the Queen's Speech on Thursday 19 May, focussing specifically on the topics of Transport and Local Infrastructure.

Legislation: Government Bills

On Thursday 19 May 2016 three Government bills received their formal first reading to carry them over from the previous session. This means that consideration of these Bills will be resumed in the 2016-17 session on dates yet to be announced.

Also on Thursday 19 May 2016 the Higher Education and Research Boll was formally presented to the House.
