Nine young people started work on 28 September 2015 as the House welcomed the third cohort of the House of Commons Apprenticeship Scheme.
The House of Commons Apprenticeship Scheme is managed in partnership with London Apprenticeship Company and offers young people from London the opportunity to gain practical experience working for the House of Commons Service while studying for an NVQ in Business and Administration or catering.
What is the Apprenticeship Scheme?
The idea behind the scheme is to offer a chance to those who might not have thought to come and work in Parliament. It gives people from under-represented groups an opportunity to gain valuable experience of working within the House of Commons Service while earning a qualification to increase their employability for the future.
The House of Commons Service aims to improve the representation of people in our workforce, to ensure we are reaching out to the widest pool of talent, and representing the House in a positive and inclusive light. The long term goal is for our workforce to be representative of the people we serve, be a respected institution, and demonstrate our commitment to being an inclusive workplace where people feel valued.

Emily – 2014/15 cohort
"Working on the House of Commons Apprenticeship Scheme has been an incredible experience. I work with some great people and it’s a fantastic way to get your foot on the ladder."
Shadae - 2015/16 cohort
"My time here has been great so far; I work with a lovely team who are so supportive and encourage me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. This has been the opportunity I have wanted for a long time and being here has helped me grow so much as a person. I am learning so much by adapting new skills from observing techniques and relationships my team have. Since my first day, they have made me feel so welcome and comfortable which was a huge relief for me as It was very daunting starting a new job that I’m so keen and interested in but had no previous experience of."
