Richard Drax MP

Profile pictureIt is an honour and privilege to have been re-elected to represent the beautiful constituency of South Dorset in the House of Commons. I shall continue to do my utmost for all my constituents, whatever their political beliefs, without fear of favour. As a government, we have an enormous task of reducing the deficit, while continuing to create an environment which encourages business to invest, thereby boosting jobs and wealth. I much look forward to the years ahead and working with a wide range of people for the benefit of us all. (Photograph courtesy of Dorset Echo)

10 Conservative Achievements

1. We have made real progress on reducing our deficit – halving it as a share of the economy. This safeguards our economy for the long-term and keeps mortgage rates low.

2. We’ve cut income tax for over 27 million people. We have delivered a typical tax cut of £825 for over 27 million people and taken 3.8 million people out of tax altogether helping hardworking people to be more financially secure.

3. We’re freezing fuel duty. Fuel duty is 17p per litre lower than it would have been without our action meaning that the average family saves around £10 every time they fill up their tank.

4. We’re creating more jobs. Employment is up by over two million since the 2010 General Election. That’s over two million more people with the security of bringing home a regular pay packet.

5. We’re backing businesses. Because we have backed small business and enterprise with better infrastructure and lower taxes there are 760,000 more businesses, helping drive growth and create jobs.

6. We’ve capped welfare. So that no out-of-work household can claim more than the average working family earns, ensuring our economy delivers for people who want to work hard and play by the rules.

7. We are delivering the best schools for young people. Over one million more pupils are now being taught in good or outstanding schools compared to 2010.

8. We are delivering the best skills training. There have been over 2.3 million new apprenticeships since 2010 giving people the chance to learn the skills they need to get on in life.

9. We secured a cut in the EU budget and vetoed a new EU Fiscal Treaty, protecting British interests and saving British taxpayers’ money.

10. Crime is down by more than a quarter, to its lowest level since records began, meaning people are safer on the streets and in their home.
