EU Internal Market Sub-Committee
Oral evidence ongoing.
Online platforms such as online marketplaces, collaborative economy platforms and social media are assuming an increasingly central role in our society and economy. However, in its Digital Single Market Strategy the EU Commission raised a number of concerns about their growing influence, and asked whether existing regulation is fit-for-purpose.
Our aim is to make a constructive contribution to this important EU debate. To do so, we will collect evidence about the benefits platforms bring as well as how they collect and use data, possible market dominance, and their relations with suppliers. We will consider if any problems that we identify can be resolved by regulatory change, and make recommendations to the Commission and Member States accordingly.
The deadline for submissions has now passed; if you still wish to make a submission, please contact the clerk.
