Description

Ideal for use during Parliament Week or across the year, these four lesson plans introduce key stage 2 students to key democratic concepts.

The resources are packed with practical and accessible ideas to create engaging and lively opportunities for developing debating skills. These include taking part in a role play based around a school council meeting and running a House of Commons-style debate in the classroom.

Ready-made worksheets are available in the debating pack to support some of the lesson plans.

Learning outcomes

The pack supports the Citizenship, English and PSHE curricula. It introduces students to the concepts of:

  • fairness - how we decide what is fair and how to compromise
  • getting your message across
  • making decisions together
  • formal debating

Students have the opportunity to practise their debating skills in the course of the activities.
