As we never tire of saying on W4MP (because it’s TRUE!): the Commons Library is your best friend. Remember that this list is not just for Westminster-based staff; many of the resources are just as relevant to those of you based in constituency offices. The Library is open Monday-Thursday: 9am-6pm, Friday: 9am-4pm – or to the rise of the House if later. During Recess opening hours are 9am-5pm (4pm on Fridays)
PLACES TO WORK
The Members’ Library in the Palace or Derby Gate Library (for Members’ staff) have staff to help you and take research requests, WiFi, charging points, computers and photocopiers.
Most of the collection can be loaned and they can obtain inter-Library loans. Missed a programme on iPlayer or catch-up? They may be able to obtain it for you.
Call 3666 or 1515.
NEWSPAPERS AND JOURNALS
These are available daily in the two Libraries or you can research the papers online via one of the many databases, on the Library intranet pages.
Several of the research teams produce daily or weekly update emails. Ask about these, or check the intranet pages.
Over 60 researchers will bring you up to speed on a subject, or provide written briefings. Call 020 7219 3666 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
These cover all major legislation and the most frequently asked questions. You can find them on the Parliament website and intranet.
