ParliOUT is a Workplace Equality Network (WEN) in support of LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual, and questioning) people in Parliament. The first of the four networks to be established, it was launched in December 2010
A principal aim of ParliOUT is to make LGBTIQ role models more visible and accessible.
The network also provides a welcoming social forum and an informal support network of people from across Parliament. With the other WENs, ParliOUT strives to create a supportive and inclusive working environment by providing support, guidance, educational and networking opportunities to all staff and Members of both Houses of Parliament.
All parliamentary passholders, including Commons and Lords staff, MPs staff and contractors are welcome to join ParliOUT, as are MPs and Peers. Membership is not restricted to people who require a platform relating to this WEN but those involved are required to respect the aims of the Network.
In 2014, ParliOUT won the PinkNews award for “Employee Network of the Year”. The PinkNews awards celebrate the contributions of politicians, businesses and community groups in highlighting and addressing LGBT issues.
In 2015 ParliOUT was named as one of the UK's 'Awesome Networks' by Inclusive Networks. Inclusive Networks is a hub for celebrating diversity and inclusion and has named 40 network groups of all types and from all sectors for its inaugural awards. The awards aim to celebrate the positive impact of network groups such as ParliOUT and also to thank those people who coordinate the networks, often in addition to their day jobs.
Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2015
The House of Commons received its result in the Stonewall
Workplace Equality Index for 2015 and we are delighted that the House has risen 29 places to rank 126 out of 397 participating employers.
