Palace of Westminster Tour

This in-depth tour of the Palace of Westminster is an unforgettable experience and an ideal way to introduce your students to a new programme of study or to inspire and motivate them at the start of a new academic year. Let us know the course you’re following in advance and we’ll focus on aspects of Parliament most relevant to you.

Please be aware that owing to the nature of the business of Parliament, we cannot guarantee which areas of the Palace of Westminster will be accessible on any given day.

Recommended for: All post-16 students

Duration: 1 hours 15 minutes

Places per tour: 40 (to include students & teachers)

Ask an Expert

Students will quiz and hear from some of the most fascinating individuals in politics, history, law and current affairs – all in the heart of the Palace of Westminster.

We’re talking about MPs and Peers, of course, but also university professors, clerks, parliamentary security officials, journalists and others whose expertise can give insight into the work of the UK Parliament.

Each session will feature a prominent individual in their field. Where possible, we'll also aim to offer different perspectives. However, please bear in mind that political parties hold their annual conferences around this time, so it may occasionally prove impossible!

eMPathise

Students explore the role of an MP within the party system, as well as how active citizens can have influence. Balancing the sometimes competing demands of their constituents, their party and their personal opinions is all in a day’s work for an MP; but how does this actually affect decision-making in Parliament?

As the scenario unfolds, students will need to balance their own opinions with the broader implications of their actions as they get a taste of what it could be like to be an MP.

How to apply

Applications for Discover Parliament have now closed. All successful and non-successful applicants will be notified by the end of June.

We want as many schools and colleges as possible throughout the UK to have the opportunity to visit Parliament. For that reason we will only consider one application from each organisation for a maximum of 65 places, which should include one member of staff for every 19 students.

Places will be offered through a random ballot of all applicants. Applicants from organisations that have not benefitted from a place on the programme in the last three years will be processed first.
