Your Voice workshop and tour

Your Voice workshop and tour

Your Voice school workshops teach students about how their voice and the democratic system affects politics and government.

About Your Voice workshops

Please note that this visit is available to UK schools only.

The visit begins with an awe-inspiring tour of the Palace of Westminster. This introduces the concepts of democracy and representation along with the essential vocabulary students will need to talk about Parliament.

Because the Palace is the home of our working Parliament we cannot always show you everything.

Your visit might include:

  • The House of Commons or House of Lords chambers
  • A visit to the public gallery to observe the MPs or Lords working
  • Westminster Hall, the last remaining part of the original Palace
  • Central Lobby, at the very heart of the Parliamentary Estate

After the tour the action moves to one of our comfy workshop spaces where the session begins with an introduction to the levels at which the UK is governed. An interactive quiz which uses voting pod technology to encourage participation from all students explores the responsibilities and decisions made at local, regional, national and European level.

Building on this context students explore ways the public can influence decision makers using an interactive game which encourages them to evaluate several common methods of campaigning as ways of getting their voices heard.

NB: For this programme your school's constituency MP will be informed of your visit and they will be invited along to meet your students and answer their questions. This is subject to the MP’s availability in Westminster at the time of your visit and we find that this is possible around 60% of the time.
