School visits from MPs and Lords

Introduce your students to the men and women who make the big decisions about running the country.

School visits from MPs and Lords

Bring a Parliamentarian to your school to talk about the work and impact of Parliament, and its relevance for the lives of young people.

Members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons regularly visit primary and secondary schools across the UK.

MPs visits

Contact your local MP directly to discuss the possibility of a Member of Parliament visiting your school or college.

Lords visits

Schools can apply to be visited by a member of the House of Lords to hear direct explanations of their work and the role of the Lords. The Peers in Schools programme allows the House of Lords to demonstrate its experience and knowledge with participating schools. Members including academics, former teachers, scientists, lawyers, former cabinet ministers and civil servants, have visited over 500 schools.

Preparing for a visit

You can order a Parliament and Schools information pack to help you prepare for a visit from an MP or Peer and ensure your students get the most out of it. The pack contains lesson plans, stand-alone activities, and teachers' notes, as well as information about the visit itself. The activities are aimed at key stages 3 to 4.

To order a pack please email the Hansard Society or you can download it below.
