Theatre in Education workshops

This programme in collaboration with Springboard East, an East Anglia-based Theatre in Education company, provides years 4, 5 and 6 students with an opportunity to find out more about Parliament and the history of democracy.

The programme takes the form of a specially commissioned theatre piece covering key events in the history of Parliament plus accompanying workshops. It is open to all primary schools in the East and parts of the South East of England, including Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. Schools can book either a performance or a performance plus workshop/s.

Workshop topics:

  • Women and the vote
  • Changes to children’s rights over the years

Curriculum links

Both the performance and workshops link to the History curriculum, as well as Literacy and PSHE.

Practical information

  • The play lasts approximately 45 minutes and would be suitable in an extended assembly context.  It has been devised for years 4, 5 and 6.
  • Year group specific workshops last 40 minutes each and a maximum of 40 students can be accommodated in each.  The students can take part in both workshops over the course of 90 minutes, swapping halfway through the time, or you can choose to split the group between the two.
