The FCO promotes British interests overseas, supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe.

  1. Foreign affairs

    The government works to promote and protect UK interests internationally, and works with other countries to make progress on issues of mutual concern like trade, climate change, security and economic development. Read more

  2. Europe

    The government works to develop British interests in the EU, and works constructively with the EU and its member states on issues like trade, the single market, and economic growth. Read more

  3. Climate change

    The government is working at home and abroad to adapt to the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by investing in low-carbon energy sources, improving fuel standards in cars and increasing energy efficiency wherever possible. Read more

  4. National security

    The government works to identify the most pressing risks to our security, and put in place the ways and means to address them. Read more

  5. International aid and development

    Around 1.4 billion people around the world still live in poverty. The government is working with international organisations and the governments of poorer countries to help end poverty. Read more

    Securing global safety by preventing countries and terrorists access to the materials needed for weapons of mass destruction, and by mitigating the effects of land mines and cluster munitions.

    The British government's humanitarian and diplomatic efforts in securing peace in the Middle East and North Africa.
