EU Sub-Committee E - Justice and Institutions - Role

EU Sub-Committee E is one of the seven sub-committees of the House of Lords European Union Select Committee.

The primary purpose of the Select Committee and its sub-committees is to scrutinise EU law in draft before it is agreed in the EU, to expose difficulties and propose improvements. This is carried out by each sub-committee through correspondence with Ministers, evidence sessions with Ministers or officials, and inquiries.

Sub-Committee E scrutinises EU documents and policy on:

  • civil and criminal justice
  • the EU's institutions, agencies and other bodies
  • specific matters which involve a high legal input
