Student Parliament

Student Parliament programme

Student debates with a difference. Young people in years 7-13 will gain a fantastic insight into how Parliament works as they run their own debate in the Palace of Westminster.

Student Parliament visits

These lively debates encourage active student participation while following either House of Commons or House of Lords rules and conventions, all in the grand setting of a parliamentary committee room.

  • Four schools participate in every debate (16 students from each school)
  • Visits last approximately three hours with time for a short refreshment break
  • Each debate is year-group specific so content can be focused appropriately

Please note students are required to research their debate topic and write and practise their speeches in advance of their visit.

Upon request your Student Parliament can be combined with a visit to a public gallery to watch a Commons or Lords debate, if available.
